Tension erupted in Eldoret City after two groups, one opposing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion and another in support, clashed at a public participation event.
Hundreds of anti-riot police were deployed in and out of the Uasin Gishu County Hall where the public participation took place.
Many of the residents signed the public participation forms but only a few of them were able to speak at the forum.
This is after youth supporting the ouster of Gachagua stormed the venue.
Police intervened and moved out a section of the youth who were causing chaos.
One of the residents who signed the petition in support of the impeachment said residents of the region were not interested in tribalism.
“We should not be dragged into problems of an individual who is so interested in personal gains,” said Ngetich.
Leaders in the region including Governor for Uasin Gishu Jonathan Bii kept off the tension-sparked forum.
Another resident Jane Kimeli said she was opposed to the impeachment because President Ruto and the DP were elected together.
“If its impeachment then they have to go together,” said Kimeli
