Safaricom has upgraded its Home Fibre service, increasing internet speeds by up to 2.5 times at no additional cost, in a move that underscores the accelerating shift toward always-connected households and rising demand for high-performance home internet.
The upgrade applies across all Home Fibre packages, with customers retaining their current pricing. Entry-level users will now receive speeds of up to 15 Mbps, mid-tier plans have been raised to 35 Mbps and 80 Mbps, while premium packages now reach up to 400 Mbps, positioning the service for heavier household data consumption and multi-device usage.
The move comes as Kenyan homes increasingly evolve into digital hubs, driven by remote work, online learning, streaming services, gaming, and the rapid adoption of smart devices. This has shifted consumer expectations from basic connectivity to consistent, high-capacity internet capable of supporting multiple users at once.
“As homes become increasingly connected, reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury but an essential service for modern living,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa. “By upgrading Home Fibre speeds, we are delivering greater value to our customers, strengthening our market leadership, and laying the foundation for smarter, more connected homes and communities across Kenya.”

He added that the upgrade is aimed at improving everyday user experience, including smoother video streaming, more stable video calls, and stronger performance across multiple connected devices in a single household.
Safaricom, which says it now connects more than 800,000 homes, continues to expand its fibre network footprint as demand for fixed broadband rises, particularly in urban and peri-urban residential areas where households are increasingly shifting away from mobile-only internet solutions.
The upgrade also signals intensifying competition in Kenya’s fixed internet market, where providers are focusing on speed, reliability, and bundled value rather than access alone, as broadband becomes a central utility in modern households.
Industry trends indicate that home internet consumption is being driven by data-heavy applications such as cloud storage, streaming platforms, virtual meetings, and connected home ecosystems, all of which require stable and higher-capacity connections.
Safaricom says the speed enhancement is part of its broader strategy to future-proof homes for emerging digital lifestyles, where connectivity is expected to support not only entertainment and communication, but also productivity, commerce, and smart infrastructure within households.
