Azimio leader Raila Odinga has praised the support he is receiving from the Kenya Kwanza administration in his bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship.
Raila expressed his gratitude for the number of senior government officials who have shown willingness to join his campaign.
“This support stems from an understanding that we are united as Kenya, beyond partisan political parties. I appreciate their offer of support,” he said.
During a joint media briefing with Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Raila emphasized the importance of backing from Kenya Kwanza for his success.
“I want to reiterate that I am vying for a position within Africa, not within the government of the Republic of Kenya,” he stated.
He noted that in his meeting with Mudavadi, they exchanged updates on the progress of his bid.
“We discussed the preparations from both my side and the government’s side, and the necessary next steps,” he said.
Raila mentioned that Mudavadi provided an overview of the current situation, detailing the levels of preparation and commitment within the government.
“I assured the team that I am leveraging my experience and relationships to the fullest,” he stated.
Mudavadi affirmed Raila’s qualifications to lead the AU, emphasizing that this effort transcends local politics.
“We support Raila because he is qualified and a Kenyan. This is about national interests, not local politics,” he said.
