Kenya’s growing influence in the global technology space came into sharp focus on Tuesday as industry leaders, developers, and innovators gathered in Nairobi for the fourth edition of the Decode Summit.
Organised by Safaricom in collaboration with global tech giants including Microsoft, Google, Dell Technologies and Huawei, the three-day forum signals Kenya’s intent to strengthen its position as a regional hub for digital innovation.
Held under the theme “Made for Kenya,” the summit highlights the country’s journey as a leader in mobile-driven solutions and inclusive digital systems. It brings together key players shaping this ecosystem, offering a platform to exchange ideas, build skills and explore new technologies that can address everyday challenges.
This year’s event is expected to draw more than 100,000 participants both in person and online—an indication of the expanding reach and significance of Kenya’s tech landscape. From young developers to seasoned industry experts, the summit reflects a growing appetite for practical digital skills and innovation.
Speaking at the opening, Peter Ndegwa underscored the importance of harnessing local creativity and resilience to drive technological progress. He noted that the summit provides a space where problem-solvers can transform ideas into scalable solutions with impact beyond Kenya’s borders.
A key feature of the summit is its emphasis on hands-on learning. Participants are engaging in builder labs, coding sessions and mentorship programmes designed to equip them with real-world skills. These sessions aim to nurture a new generation of tech talent capable of building solutions tailored to local and regional needs.
Discussions throughout the summit are also centred on emerging technologies shaping the future of the economy. Artificial intelligence, financial technology and creative digital industries have taken centre stage, reflecting their growing role in driving economic transformation and job creation.
Beyond the main event, Safaricom plans to sustain the momentum through year-round initiatives. These include regional meet-ups, training programmes and mentorship opportunities aimed at making digital skills more accessible across the country. Participants will also receive certifications and digital credentials to support their professional growth.
The Decode Summit has steadily evolved into one of Kenya’s flagship technology forums, playing a critical role in fostering partnerships and strengthening the country’s innovation ecosystem.
As East Africa’s leading telecommunications provider, Safaricom continues to anchor much of this digital transformation. Listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, the company connects tens of millions of users and supports a significant portion of the economy through its services.
Its mobile money platform, M-PESA, remains one of its most transformative innovations, having revolutionised financial access and inclusion across Kenya. Through such platforms and continued investment in technology, Safaricom is positioning itself—and the country—at the forefront of Africa’s digital future.
With Decode 4.0 now underway, Kenya’s ambition to lead in technology and innovation is not just being discussed—it is actively being built.
