Nairobi MCAs have raised concerns over alleged wastage of public funds at county hospitals in a scheme that has reportedly seen Health CEC Suzanne Silantoi, Chief Officer for Health Facilities David Sande Oyolo and hospital CEOs spend huge amounts of Facility Improvement Fund (FIF) money on travel allowances and per diems while patients continue to suffer from inadequate services in hospitals.
According to the MCAs, health officials led by Silantoi have organized a series of local and international trips, with Nairobi County hospitals allegedly spending more than KSh 30 million on local travel alone within a month.
“They are depleting taxpayers’ money instead of buying drugs for hospitals. They have converted hospital funds into a travel kitty where they draw hefty per diems. We shall smoke them out. Mama Lucy is the most notorious one, and it is shameful that CEC Silantoi is leading this mischief,” one MCA claimed.
The ward representatives further alleged that multiple meetings had been held in Mombasa under the guise of “familiarization tours.”
“This week alone, we had three meetings in Mombasa in the name of familiarization. This is public wastage, and we shall not allow it,” the MCA added.
