PANG digital broadcast rollout targets inclusion in frontier regions

The Pan African Network Group (PANG) is leading a Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Pilot Project in Kakuma Ward, Turkana County, aimed at enhancing digital inclusion and broadening the coverage of Kenya’s broadcasting framework.

The initiative, financed by the Universal Service Fund (USF) and managed by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), focuses on disadvantaged areas where the growth of commercial broadcasting has been restricted due to expensive infrastructure.

Last week, county officials organized a stakeholder engagement meeting that united national government representatives, education leaders, local officials, and community members to examine the project’s implementation framework and possible economic effects.

During the event, Tamima Ibrahim, General Manager of Pan African Network Group (PANG), noted that the pilot signifies an important achievement in expanding broadcast signal distribution to emerging markets.

“Investing in infrastructure in neglected areas such as Turkana provides lasting benefits for the overall broadcasting network.” “By extending our signal reach, we are establishing a foundation for enhanced content accessibility, advertising expansion, and increased engagement in the digital market,” stated Tamima.

She mentioned that in addition to enhancing access to free television, the initiative aims to boost local economic development by facilitating information exchange, increasing educational access, and improving connectivity.

She remarked that when operational, the DTT pilot is expected to offer residents access to more than 500 television and radio broadcasting services, greatly improving access to news, educational content, government messages, and public service programming
