Safaricom (NSE: SCOM), through its youth platform Safaricom Hook, in collaboration with Sprite, yesterday hosted the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series at the University of Eldoret, reaching over 300 students and young people from the university and surrounding communities.
The program provided in-depth training on content creation, monetization strategies, and digital skills, equipping participants with practical tools to thrive in Kenya’s growing digital economy.
The masterclass featured industry mentors, including musician Collo Blue and dance creator Tileh Pacbro, who shared actionable advice, personal experiences, and insights into building successful careers in digital content creation.
“I’m thrilled that Safaricom and Sprite brought this masterclass to our university. I’ve learned that platforms like Safaricom Hook are useful beyond entertainment—they support studies and research, especially with affordable internet bundles,” said Norman Kipkurgat, a second-year student at University of Eldoret.
The University of Eldoret event follows the inaugural Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass at JKUAT last week, marking the start of a nationwide initiative to equip young Kenyans with creative, digital, and financial skills necessary for future careers.
“The Hook’d on Fresh campaign is designed to provide creators with the skills, tools, and inspiration to excel in the digital content economy. We also spoke to youth about the importance of early financial literacy and the diverse opportunities available in tech and digital platforms,” said Fawzia Ali, Chief Consumer Business Officer, Safaricom.
The masterclass series will continue to tour universities across the country, offering students not only digital skills but also products such as Ziidi Invest and Save, aimed at supporting their daily hustle and fostering financial responsibility.
In tandem with the masterclasses, Safaricom and Sprite launched the Hook’d on Fresh User Generated Content (UGC) Challenge, a nationwide competition inviting young Kenyans to showcase creativity through short-form videos. Participants can share their “fresh” take on music, sports, fashion, and comedy on TikTok and Instagram, using hashtags #HookdonFresh and #SafaricomHook, tagging Sprite Kenya and Safaricom Hook for a chance to win prizes.
The challenge features 403 winners across nine tiers, with cash prizes ranging from KES 3,000 to KES 20,000, as well as smartphones and data bundles. Winners are selected monthly.
By combining mentorship, hands-on creative training, and financial literacy, the Hook’d on Fresh Masterclass Series empowers young Kenyans to build practical skills, seize digital opportunities, and lay a foundation for sustainable careers in the digital economy.
