Documents and activist accounts indicate Alfayo was first removed from Matuga Sub-County by former MP Kassim Tandaza amid allegations of financial impropriety. He resurfaced in Malindi, only to be dismissed again by area MP Amina Mnyazi, following claims of embezzlement of CDF funds. His next stop was Kilifi North under MP Owen Baya, where he lasted just eight months. Sources allege he was sent packing after Sh1 million reportedly disappeared — money activists claim was channeled into financing his political activities in Nyali. Alfayo later moved to Kitui South, where MP Racheal Nyamai allegedly removed him after just three months over claims he had diverted sub-county CDF funds to his personal foundation. Despite this string of exits, he now holds a powerful financial oversight role in Suba North.

Political Ambitions and Fresh Accusations

The controversy deepens in Nyali, Mombasa County, where Alfayo runs the Nelson Alfayo Foundation and is reportedly positioning himself for a parliamentary bid. Activists accuse him of weaponizing public office to fund and advance his political ambitions. A coalition of lobby groups, including Concern Citizens, has filed a formal petition to the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) Board demanding urgent disciplinary action. In a strongly worded letter to the NG-CDF CEO, Convener Bradley Ouna accuses Alfayo of gross violations of the Constitution, illegal political campaigning, and conduct that undermines public trust.

“The office of NG-CDF is not a campaign vehicle,” Ouna wrote. “Public officials must remain politically neutral. We are prepared to pursue legal redress should these violations continue.”

The petition claims Alfayo has actively campaigned in Nyali while still serving as a public officer — a direct breach, activists argue, of the public service code of conduct.

Beyond alleged political interference, the complaint levels a series of serious accusations — including corruption, money laundering, and links to criminal gangs said to have terrorized residents in Nyali. Local sources allege Alfayo has repeatedly evaded accountability through political protection and financial influence. Even more troubling are allegations of personal misconduct and exploitation, though these claims remain untested in court.
