Mr. Mohamed Haji Bullow, also known as Kahiye, has publicly withdrawn previous statements he described as erroneous and politically motivated, while announcing his departure from the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Addressing journalists and community leaders at a press briefing, Bullow said the conference was convened to clarify issues of public interest and to resolve concerns arising from his earlier comments, which he admitted were based on a case of mistaken identity involving an individual with a similar name.

He offered an unconditional apology to the affected individual, acknowledging that his remarks unfairly infringed on the person’s rights as a Kenyan citizen. Bullow emphasised that the matter was never personal but arose in the heat of political contestation.

The former DCP official also sought forgiveness from senior political figures he had previously criticised, including former Cabinet Secretary Adan Barre and legislators Farah Maalim and Aden Keynan, noting that his language had fallen short of the cultural and moral standards upheld within the Somali community.

In the same address, Bullow formally announced his resignation from DCP, where he served as an organising secretary within the party’s disability league and was regarded as a key figure from the North Eastern region. He accused the party of abandoning issue-based politics in favour of personal attacks and public insults.

According to Bullow, his decision followed a political assessment of northern counties such as Marsabit, Isiolo, Moyale, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu, where he said DCP lacked meaningful grassroots support. He said this informed his move to join UDA, which he believes enjoys wider acceptance in the region.

He called on supporters from the North to reconsider their political alignment and rally behind UDA, arguing that unity and constructive engagement were necessary to safeguard national stability.

Bullow symbolically surrendered his DCP membership card to community elders and religious leaders, marking his official exit from the party. He concluded by thanking family members, elders and associates who facilitated dialogue and reconciliation, and maintained that his apology and political shift were made voluntarily and without coercion.
