From the world’s first one-piece shaver to today’s premium designs, BIC continues shaping the future of shaving worldwide
Nairobi, Kenya – XX November 2025 — Fifty years ago, in 1975, BIC transformed personal grooming with the launch of the world’s first one-piece disposable shaver—the iconic BIC 1. Simple, affordable, safe, and accessible, the BIC 1 quickly became a global essential and remains BIC’s highest-selling razor to date.
This year, BIC is proudly celebrating five decades of innovation, industrial excellence, and trusted shaving solutions, marking a milestone that reflects its commitment to meeting evolving consumer needs around the world.
“At BIC, we innovate with purpose, constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of our consumers,” said Gary Horsfield, BIC Blade Excellence Category Leader and Group Supply Chain Officer. “Our razors combine cutting-edge technology with thoughtful design, delivering the smooth, reliable shave that millions rely on daily.”

A Legacy of Precision and Industrial Mastery
BIC’s blade manufacturing journey began in Greece at BIC Violex, the company’s largest shaver production facility, where the BIC 1 was first manufactured in 1974. Today, 99% of the plant’s output is exported, primarily to North America, Mexico, and Europe. The facility produces over 25 million shavers per week and manufactures more than 40 different razor types.
The site also serves as one of BIC’s global innovation hubs, responsible for prototyping and developing new shaving products.
BIC has since expanded production to France, Mexico, Brazil, and Kenya, collectively manufacturing over 5 billion blades annually and distributing razors in more than 160 countries.
Using precision engineering and advanced nanotechnology, BIC blades are now up to 2,000 times thinner than a human hair. Each blade undergoes over 60 quality checks and is treated under extreme temperatures—from 1,100°C to -80°C—to guarantee durability, safety, and exceptional performance.

BIC continues to expand its product range to cater to diverse lifestyles, grooming habits, and skin types.
For Women
BIC’s women’s shavers feature two to five blades, lubricating strips, and moisturizing bars enriched with oils and natural butters for a smooth glide. Comfort shields help protect skin from irritation, while textured, easy-grip handles ensure stability—even in the shower. Fragranced handles and vibrant designs turn shaving into a sensorial, feel-good moment.
For Men
BIC’s men’s razors include one to five ultra-sharp stainless-steel blades, available in both fixed and pivoting head variations. Many models feature precision blades for beard detailing, lubricating strips for added comfort, and advanced coatings that deliver a consistently close and smooth shave.
