Sonko Clears Hospital Bills for Over 200 Mothers Stranded at Mama Lucy Hospital

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has come to the aid of more than 210 mothers who had been stranded at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for months due to unpaid maternity and treatment bills.

Arriving at the facility early Tuesday morning, Sonko learned that several women who had recently delivered were unable to obtain discharge letters because they could not afford hospital fees. Some of the mothers were reportedly abandoned by their relatives or lacked family support.

In a humanitarian gesture, Sonko cleared medical bills amounting to over KSh 2 million, after reaching an agreement with the hospital’s management, which also waived part of the costs.

The former governor further provided stipends to the mothers to help them settle at home and hired ambulances from his Sonko Rescue Team to transport them safely.

“I know what lacking money means. I also came from a poor background. That’s why I don’t want to see this happen to any woman,” said Sonko, pledging to continue supporting vulnerable mothers through his foundation.

Sonko, known for his philanthropic initiatives, has in the past assisted disaster victims, paid school fees for needy children, and provided funeral support through his Sonko Rescue Team.

His latest intervention has drawn widespread praise from Nairobi residents, many describing him as a compassionate leader who continues to stand with the less fortunate despite being out of office.
