Renowned Kenyan activist and photojournalist Boniface Mwangi has been deported from Tanzania under unclear circumstances and left in the border town of Ukunda, Kwale County, his family has confirmed.
According to close family sources, Mwangi was transported by road from Tanzania and dropped off in Ukunda without any prior notice to his family or the Kenyan authorities.
“He was left without explanation or assistance,” a family spokesperson said.
Mwangi, known for his fearless activism, had reportedly traveled to Tanzania for personal reasons. His sudden deportation has sparked concern among human rights advocates across the region.
There are growing calls for both the Kenyan and Tanzanian governments to clarify the circumstances surrounding his deportation and to ensure his safety.
