Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has officially joined the Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) and announced his bid for the Nyeri senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general election.

In the 2022 general election, Kabando contested the Nyeri Senate seat under the Narc-Kenya party, led by Martha Karua, but lost to Wahome Wamatangi of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Kabando confirmed his move, saying:

“Registered as a member of DCP. Aspiring for Senate of Kenya to represent Nyeri #CountyofGallantry. Crafting patriotic troop.”

He expressed confidence in winning the seat in the next election, adding:

“Our #united opposition 2027 #1 presidential candidate for #Round1win 70% vote. By all nonviolent means necessary.”

Kabando had earlier hinted at his senatorial ambitions on February 25, stating he would soon announce the party under which he would vie.

The Democratic for Citizens Party, founded by Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was officially unveiled on May 15, 2025, at the party’s headquarters in Lavington.

During the launch, Gachagua emphasized that the party would focus on inclusivity and had already brought in representatives from various demographic groups, including Generation Z.
