By ENOCK KIGENT

Residents of Kitutu Masaba Constituency have voiced strong support for the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF). They spoke during a public meeting held at the NG-CDF offices in Manga Ward, as part of the public participation process on the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2025.

The meeting was led by the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Clive Gisairo. Community members attended to share their views on the proposed constitutional changes, particularly those related to development funding.

One of the speakers, Mr. Hezron Nyasani, Principal of Keronge Town School, praised the NG-CDF for its role in supporting education. He noted that many schools depend on the fund, especially when government disbursements are delayed.

“As a principal, I have witnessed how NG-CDF has helped improve schools. It has promoted equity in education by supporting students from both poor and well-off backgrounds,” said Mr. Nyasani.

He also commended the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), saying it has gone beyond providing sanitary towels to girls by supplying schools with water tanks, benefiting students who previously walked long distances to fetch water.

Residents at the meeting called on the government to increase NG-CDF allocations from 2.5% to 5% of the national budget. They argued that more funding would accelerate development in schools and communities.

The event highlighted the widespread belief that development funds like NG-CDF and NGAAF are essential for improving lives, particularly in rural areas.

The National Assembly continues to collect public views from across the country as it considers amendments to the Constitution.
