The Principal Secretary in the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Jane Kere Imbunya, and Director General of Immigration Everleen Cheluget were among distinguished women celebrated during the 7th edition of the Eastern Africa Super Women Awards held in Nairobi.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the colourful ceremony held on Saturday night, Dr. Imbunya, who was the chief guest, challenged women to step out of their comfort zones and boldly fight for their space in all sectors of society.<\/p>\n
Drawing from her personal experience, Dr. Imbunya, who is a widow, said every woman is capable of achieving greatness through hard work, determination, and confidence to compete equally with men, including in leadership and political spaces.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy fellow women, we cannot just sit and wait for men to provide for us. Let us support each other so that we become competent enough to stand on our own,\u201d said Dr. Imbunya.<\/p>\n
On her part, Ms. Cheluget called on women, especially those working in the civil service, to empower and uplift one another.<\/p>\n
Ms. Cheluget, who was also part of the panel discussion, noted that women have the potential to excel and surpass expectations when given the right support and opportunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to do what other men and women are doing \u2014 competency and positivity are key,\u201d said Ms. Cheluget.<\/p>\n
She added that supporting one another across both the private and public sectors would help more women gain recognition locally and internationally.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy fellow ladies, let us work hard and empower others, especially those serving in the public sector. These people go through a lot, but for us to achieve what we aspire to, we must hold each other\u2019s hands so that we can become great people in society,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
Ms. Cheluget also applauded the organisers of the awards, noting that the recognition reflected the collective efforts of her department.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis award is not just a personal achievement, but a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and the collective effort of men and women who serve this country diligently every single day, often behind the scenes,\u201d said Cheluget.<\/p>\n
