Macmillan Medical Training College has launched two major empowerment initiatives aimed at expanding access to education, healthcare training, and digital skills for young Kenyans.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the official launch of the Afya Bora Scholarship Program and the Women in Tech Empowerment Program, the college\u2019s director said the initiatives are designed to address barriers that continue to lock many young people out of education and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n
The the college director, Mr. Josphat Ochieng noted that the programs target students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are unable to afford college education despite having the potential to succeed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe event is about the future of Kenya. It is about the young person who has completed Form Four but cannot afford college fees. It is about the talented girl or woman who dreams of entering the technology space but lacks opportunity,\u201d Mr. Ochieng said.<\/p>\n
The newly launched Afya Bora Scholarship Program will offer full and partial sponsorships to deserving students pursuing accredited healthcare and medical training courses. The initiative seeks to help bridge the country\u2019s healthcare workforce gap by training more healthcare assistants, caregivers, emergency responders, community health workers, and other medical professionals.<\/p>\n
At the same time, the Women in Tech Empowerment Program, launched in partnership with NIA Innovation and Technology Training College, will provide fully sponsored technology training opportunities for women aged between 18 and 40 years.<\/p>\n
According to the institution, the program is intended to increase women\u2019s participation in technology, innovation, digital entrepreneurship, and emerging industries as Kenya continues to embrace digital transformation.<\/p>\n
The director said the college believes talent should not be limited by poverty or geographical background, adding that students from all parts of the country deserve equal opportunities to succeed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese initiatives are designed to give young Kenyans access to opportunities that many thought were beyond their reach. Education must now become practical, employable, innovative, and transformative,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The college further stated that the initiatives align with the government\u2019s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and are being implemented under accredited TVET standards regulated by TVETA and CDACC.<\/p>\n
Macmillan Medical Training College also called on the government to expand access to Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) funding and other educational financing opportunities to students enrolled in accredited private colleges and TVET institutions.<\/p>\n
The institution argued that limiting financial support based on whether a student attends a public or private institution disadvantages many deserving learners.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the country is serious about reducing unemployment, strengthening healthcare systems, fighting poverty, and empowering youth, then support must be based on need and potential \u2014 not simply whether one studies in a public or private institution,\u201d Mr. Ochieng stated.<\/p>\n
The college further said the Women in Tech initiative aligns with global development priorities, including quality education, gender equality, innovation, decent work, and economic growth.<\/p>\n
The institution urged the media to help amplify awareness about the opportunities so that vulnerable and deserving students across the country can benefit from the programs.<\/p>\n
