Once complete, the road is expected to enhance connectivity to key trading centres and essential services across the region, addressing long-standing transport challenges.

For years, residents have grappled with poor road conditions, particularly during the rainy season when mobility is severely hampered. The situation has often disrupted the movement of people and agricultural produce, undermining productivity in one of the county’s key farming zones.

Kinangop Constituency MP. Kinangop’s economy largely depends on dairy and potato farming, and better infrastructure is expected to facilitate faster delivery of produce to markets, reduce post-harvest losses, and ultimately increase household incomes.

Access to healthcare and education services is also set to improve, with residents anticipating shorter travel times and more reliable transport options.

Leadership and Development Agenda

The initiative aligns with ongoing infrastructure development efforts championed by Kinangop Member of Parliament, Hon. Zachary Kwenya Thuku, whose agenda has focused on opening up rural areas to drive economic growth and regional integration.

Community Perspective and Quality Concerns

While residents have welcomed the progress, they have underscored the importance of ensuring high construction standards. Particular attention, they say, should be given to drainage systems and culvert installation to withstand the area’s heavy rainfall and guarantee the road’s longevity.

An elderly resident, Mr. Ng’ang’a, expressed cautious optimism:

“We have suffered for many years. We are now hopeful that our produce will reach the market on time,” he said.

The Chobe–Matundura Road project forms part of a broader push to strengthen infrastructure across Kinangop Constituency.
