Elections in Kajiado County have been scheduled for Saturday, April 25.

The exercise is expected to draw significant participation, with approximately eight million voters anticipated to take part across more than 9,000 polling centres nationwide.

According to the party, over 450,000 candidates have registered to vie for 20 positions at the polling centre level. These positions represent a broad cross-section of society, including women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, religious leaders, professionals, and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) representatives.

UDA noted that it has already successfully conducted grassroots elections in 25 counties, marking steady progress in its internal democratic processes.

To enhance efficiency and transparency, the party will deploy end-to-end technology during the elections. A total of 9,500 electronic voting tablets have been distributed across polling centres to facilitate the process.

Voting is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. and close at 5:00 p.m., with the exercise expected to yield 182,240 elected grassroots officials who will hold a direct mandate from party members.

Meanwhile, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who also serves as the party’s deputy leader, held consultations with more than 10 aspirants seeking to contest in the upcoming Ol Kalou Constituency by-election. The by-election is expected to be held following the death of the area Member of Parliament.

The grassroots elections are seen as a critical step in consolidating the party’s support base and prepare for future electoral contests.

By Njeri Irungu, 22 April 2026| Nairobi, Kenya.
