With party affiliations and personal networks already shaping early dynamics, voters are beginning to weigh their options ahead of the next general election.

Patrick Wainaina Jungle, affiliated with the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), is among the key figures seeking to re-enter the political arena. A former Member of Parliament, Wainaina brings with him prior legislative experience and a well established development track record. His long standing relationships within the constituency are expected to play a central role as he seeks to reconnect with the electorate.

Thika Town Constituency Aspirant who ranked first position with 40%

David Kariuki Gakuyo, aligned to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), also features prominently in the emerging race. Gakuyo remains a widely recognized figure, partly due to the controversies surrounding the collapsed Ekeza Sacco, which significantly shaped public perception of his public life. Despite this, he continues to maintain strong networks within Thika Town, which could prove crucial in his bid to regain political footing.

Aspirant David Gakuyo who ranked second position with 25%

John Njiru, contesting on a Jubilee Party ticket, brings considerable local experience into the race. A long term resident of Thika Town and a two term serving MCA, Njiru is regarded as both politically seasoned and financially capable, attributes that may enhance his competitiveness in what is expected to be a tightly contested showdown.

Maina Karobia, also associated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), represents the youthful and progressive front of the contest. Currently serving as a Member of the East African Legislative Assembly, Karobia is widely seen as a leader who resonates with young voters, particularly the Gen Z demographic, positioning him as a strong voice for generational change and modern leadership.

Mary Kirika, whose party affiliation is yet to be officially declared, adds another important dimension to the race. A scholar and long serving philanthropist, she has built a strong reputation in community service and leadership engagement across Thika Town. Her long term involvement in social development initiatives has helped her cultivate deep grassroots connections.

Ephraim Wainaina, a Jubilee Party aspirant, is also part of the emerging lineup. A first time entrant into elective politics, he is Thika Town born and is gradually building recognition, particularly in Makongeni, where his local roots are believed to resonate strongly with residents.

As the contest continues to take shape, the mix of experienced political figures, youthful entrants, and community rooted leaders signals an intense and unpredictable race ahead for Thika Town Constituency.

By Njeri Irungu, 15th April 2026, Kiambu, Kenya.
