{"id":5577,"date":"2026-04-05T16:12:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T16:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsroomhub.co.ke\/?p=5577"},"modified":"2026-04-05T16:12:54","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T16:12:54","slug":"action-for-children-leads-child-protection-outreach-in-thika","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsroomhub.co.ke\/index.php\/2026\/04\/05\/action-for-children-leads-child-protection-outreach-in-thika\/","title":{"rendered":"Action for Children Leads Child Protection Outreach in Thika"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"97\" data-end=\"312\">Children\u2019s welfare took centre stage in Thika on Easter Saturday as stakeholders gathered for a community outreach event aimed at supporting vulnerable and street-connected children during the school holiday period.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"314\" data-end=\"742\">Action for Children in Conflict (AFCiC) and the Thika District Business Association (TDBA), together with corporate partners including Newsline Media, Del Monte, Thika Cloth Mills, Advocate Wanjiru Mwangi, 3T, Faytech, Mac Dental, Best Budget and Hawkers Pride.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"744\" data-end=\"945\">The event, held at St. Patrick\u2019s Primary School grounds, brought together stakeholders for a football tournament and a donation drive targeting food, clothing and sports equipment for at-risk children.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"947\" data-end=\"1120\">At least eight teams participated in the tournament, attracting residents, business organisations and local leaders who turned up in large numbers to support the initiative.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1300\">AFCiC Director John Muiruri said the outreach was designed to protect children from risks such as drug abuse, crime and exploitation, which often increase during school holidays.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1302\" data-end=\"1472\">\u201cSchool holidays expose many children to unsafe environments. This initiative is meant to keep them engaged while also ensuring they have access to basic needs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1639\">Muiruri added that AFCiC is implementing similar programmes across Thika, Kiambu, Murang\u2019a and parts of Laikipia North, focusing on child protection and development.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1641\" data-end=\"1820\">Corporate partners supported the event through donations and logistical assistance, underscoring the importance of partnerships in addressing social challenges affecting children.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1822\" data-end=\"2166\">The Thika District Business Association pledged continued support for such initiatives, saying they form the foundation for a healthy, educated and drug-free community and a model for investing in people.
