<\/p>\nAn aspiring MCA\u00a0 for Chevaywa ward Dennis Wanyonyi, has threatened to file a petition demanding urgent installation of road safety measures along the busy following a fatal hit-and-run incident.<\/p>\n
The call comes after a pupil from Makonge Comprehensive Primary School was killed on Thursday at noon by a speeding saloon car while heading home for lunch. The driver fled the scene, sparking outrage among residents and leaders.<\/p>\n
Wanyonyi, a former sports journalist, expressed disappointment over what he termed as negligence by authorities in addressing safety concerns along the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a parent and a leader, I am very disappointed with the state of our roads in Kenya, especially the Kakamega\u2013Webuye road. This tragic accident involving a young pupil from Makonge should be a turning point for the government to implement measures to reduce accidents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to the aspiring politician, the stretch between Matete Market and Kaburengu Junction lacks basic road safety features such as signage and speed bumps, despite being a high-traffic area frequently used by school children.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a busy section with students crossing daily, yet there are no road signs or bumps to slow down motorists,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
He warned that failure by the government to act could trigger peaceful demonstrations by residents to push for improved road safety infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf holding demonstrations is what will push the government to install road signs along that road, then we will have to take that route,\u201d Wanyonyi added.<\/p>\n
Local reports indicate that more than four people have lost their lives in accidents along the same stretch in the past three weeks, with the most recent incidents reported near Malava Forest\u2014raising concerns that the area has become a dangerous blackspot.<\/p>\n
Wanyonyi further called on police to launch investigations into the hit-and-run incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a community, we are asking the police to investigate and ensure justice for the bereaved family,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added that continued inaction may force residents to mobilize and demand accountability over what they describe as preventable deaths.<\/p>\n
