{"id":5002,"date":"2026-02-13T09:45:48","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T09:45:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsroomhub.co.ke\/?p=5002"},"modified":"2026-02-13T09:45:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T09:45:48","slug":"absa-strengthens-africa-strategy-with-appointment-of-lopokoiyit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsroomhub.co.ke\/index.php\/2026\/02\/13\/absa-strengthens-africa-strategy-with-appointment-of-lopokoiyit\/","title":{"rendered":"Absa Strengthens Africa Strategy with Appointment of Lopokoiyit"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n\r\nAbsa has announced the appointment of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessdailyafrica.com\/bd\/corporate\/companies\/absa-taps-m-pesa-ceo-sitoyo-lopokoiyit-for-africa-banking-role-5355374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0Sitoyo Lopokoiyit<\/a>\u00a0as Chief Executive: Personal and Private Banking, effective 1 April 2026.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nA highly experienced industry leader, Lopokoiyit brings deep expertise in financial services, telecoms, customer value propositions and experience, and large-scale business transformation.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThis appointment represents an important step in Absa\u2019s ongoing focus on delivering integrated, customer centric solutions across its Personal and Private Banking franchise, while also exploring new growth opportunities.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nLopokoiyit was most recently the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizen.digital\/article\/m-pesa-africa-md-sitoyo-lopokoiyit-joins-absa-as-chief-executive-n377262\">\u00a0Managing Director of M-PESA Africa and Chief Financial Services Officer at Safaricom<\/a>, where he led the strategy and growth of Africa\u2019s largest fintech platform.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWith more than 12 years of experience in fintech, Lopokoiyit has played a central role in scaling M-PESA into a continental powerhouse, serving over 56 million customers and more than 5 million businesses.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHe was appointed to lead M-PESA Africa, the joint venture between Safaricom and Vodacom, with a mandate to expand the platform\u2019s reach and relevance across African markets.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nSince joining Safaricom in 2011, Lopokoiyit held several senior leadership roles, including Head of M-PESA Strategy and Business Development, and has led operations in Tanzania.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHe has driven the launch of major innovations such as the M-PESA Super App, Fuliza, and strategic partnerships with global platforms including PayPal and AliPay.\r\n\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Absa has announced the appointment of\u00a0Sitoyo Lopokoiyit\u00a0as Chief Executive: Personal and Private Banking, effective 1 April 2026.
