{"id":4015,"date":"2025-10-28T13:13:46","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T13:13:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thenewsroomhub.co.ke\/?p=4015"},"modified":"2025-10-28T13:13:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T13:13:46","slug":"chepkwony-and-chepkorir-lead-kenya-to-glory-in-record-breaking-standard-chartered-marathon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenewsroomhub.co.ke\/index.php\/2025\/10\/28\/chepkwony-and-chepkorir-lead-kenya-to-glory-in-record-breaking-standard-chartered-marathon\/","title":{"rendered":"Chepkwony and Chepkorir Lead Kenya to Glory in Record-Breaking Standard Chartered Marathon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>22nd edition surpasses KSh 925 million raised for charity since 2003 and injects KSh 229 million into Kenya\u2019s economy<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Sunday, October 26, 2025:<\/strong><br \/>\nKenya\u2019s <strong>Bernard Chepkwony<\/strong> and <strong>Hellen Chepkorir<\/strong> emerged champions in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s <strong>42km<\/strong> races at the <strong>22nd Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon<\/strong>, clocking <strong>2:11:01<\/strong> and <strong>2:27:17<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>21km half marathon<\/strong>, <strong>Joshua Kithuku<\/strong> won the men\u2019s category in <strong>1:02:35<\/strong>, while <strong>Fridah Rerimoi<\/strong> triumphed in the women\u2019s category in <strong>1:14:23<\/strong>. <strong>Shadrack Musyoka<\/strong> and <strong>Nelvin Jepkemboi<\/strong> took top honours in the <strong>10km race<\/strong>, finishing in <strong>29:01<\/strong> and <strong>33:04<\/strong>. In the <strong>21km wheelchair category<\/strong>, <strong>John Wambua<\/strong> and <strong>Mary Tatu Jared<\/strong> claimed victory in <strong>1:29:25<\/strong> and <strong>1:49:47<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s marathon raised <strong>KSh 76 million<\/strong> for community programmes \u2014 the highest amount ever from a one-day sporting event in Kenya. Since its inception in <strong>2003<\/strong>, the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon has raised over <strong>KSh 925 million<\/strong> for charity initiatives nationwide.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Record Participation and Global Reach<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The 2025 edition attracted a record <strong>30,602 runners<\/strong> from <strong>92 nationalities<\/strong>, with participation increasing across all categories. Over <strong>200 elite athletes<\/strong> competed, representing Kenya and other countries in the region.<br \/>\nParticipation among <strong>persons with disabilities (PWDs)<\/strong> rose to <strong>184<\/strong>, up from <strong>146<\/strong> in 2024. The <strong>10km race<\/strong> saw the highest turnout with <strong>12,855 participants<\/strong>, up from <strong>10,276<\/strong> last year.<br \/>\nThe top participating nationalities were <strong>Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, China, the United States, and the United Kingdom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The marathon featured <strong>six race categories<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>42km men and women<\/li>\n<li>21km men and women<\/li>\n<li>10km men and women<\/li>\n<li>21km wheelchair men and women<\/li>\n<li>5km Family Fun Run<\/li>\n<li>Corporate Relay Challenge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Impact Beyond the Track<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Speaking at the conclusion of the event, <strong>Kariuki Ngari<\/strong>, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank Kenya &amp; Africa, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe 22nd edition of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon has been remarkable, marked by a significant rise in elite runners, sponsors, and overall participation. With the support of over 40 sponsors and partners, we successfully delivered an exceptional and inclusive experience for all participants.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He added that the bank, through its partners, had strengthened its <strong>inclusivity and sustainability efforts<\/strong>, including the provision of <strong>mothers\u2019 rooms and nursing stations<\/strong> along the route and at the venue.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBeyond the race itself, the true impact of the marathon lies in how its proceeds \u2014 now totalling KSh 925 million \u2014 have transformed lives across Kenya.
